Sharjah Sustainable City launches 'Take a Book, Share a Book' Community Initiative in Collaboration with Kalimat Group

Events December 26, 2023

Sharjah Sustainable City – the first sustainable master-planned residential community developed by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in partnership with Diamond Developers, has launched a new book-sharing initiative as part of its efforts to share knowledge and develop a community of learners.

Launched in collaboration with Kalimat Group – an Emirati Publishing group of award-winning Arabic books, the initiative dubbed ‘Take a Book, Share a Book’ was kickstarted by members of the senior management from both entities in the presence of many residents who exchanged and shared their favorite books with fellow residents.

To mark the launch, a special book reading session with author Samya Ayesh was also organized for the city’s young residents. They enjoyed reading the insightful book ‘Lematha,’ meaning ‘Why’ and emphasizes sustainability and recycling.

Commenting on the initiative, Yousif Ahmed Al-Mutawa, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Sustainable City, said: “Our every effort at Sharjah Sustainable City goes toward nurturing a community that not just embraces sustainable living but also inspires others for a better tomorrow. As we aspire to achieve Net Zero Energy, knowledge sharing stands as a key component of this journey, forming the foundation of the pillars of sustainability integrated into our city. We are happy to partner with Kalimat Group and utilize their expertise to share knowledge among our residents about the importance of book reading and how it positively contributes to building sustainable and knowledgeable communities, especially in the Emirate of Sharjah, crowned World Book Capital City in 2019 by UNESCO. It was heartening to see our young residents showing enthusiasm at the book reading session, which was aimed to make book reading interactive and enjoyable for children to understand important topics like sustainability in a fun way, as they are the future of our cities and nations.”

Over the past few years since the city was launched and transformed into a vibrant community, a number of community engagement programs have been regularly organized and hosted at the city premises. With a commitment to creating a community of happy, environmentally aware, and healthy people, these programs are focusing on a wide range of topics within the realm of sustainability, giving residents a unique platform to share and learn about some of the most critical issues that impact their life and the environment we live in, as well as enabling them to become lifelong learners and thoughtful individuals.
